About Micropterix calthella (Linnaeus, 1761)

The pupae of Micropterix calthella are brown, with dark eye spots (oculi) and paler abdominal segments. Adult moths are small: their forewings reach a maximum length of 4.6 millimetres (0.18 in), and their total wingspan measures 8 to 10 millimetres (0.31 to 0.39 in). This species has plainer markings than many other European Micropterix species. Its forewings are dark bronze-colored, or alternatively pale shining bronzy-golden, with patches of purple sheen and distinctive purple-colored bases. The hindwings are a moderately dark bronzy-grey shade, and the head is a deep ferruginous-yellow color.
