About Micromelo undatus (Bruguière, 1792)

This species, scientifically named Micromelo undatus (Bruguière, 1792), has a thinly calcified shell. The shell is covered with undulating brown lines, which are crossed by two additional spiral lines. Adult shell length ranges from 12 to 17 mm, and the maximum recorded shell length for this species is 17 mm. The organism has a large, colorful body that is blue with white spots, and the margin of its foot bears a diffuse blue line. Micromelo undatus is distributed across the Caribbean, Florida, Costa Rica, Panama, Bermuda, Brazil, Cape Verde Islands, Canary Islands, Ascension Island, Eastern Atlantic, South Africa, Japan, Thailand, Bali, and the U.S. State of Hawaii. It can be found between 0 m and 5 m depth, and lives on soft substrates as well as algal turf areas on rocky reefs.
