About Microeca flavigaster Gould, 1843

The adult lemon-bellied flyrobin, Microeca flavigaster Gould, 1843, measures approximately 11.5 centimeters (4.5 inches) in length. Males and females have similar plumage. The nominate subspecies M. f. flavigaster has lemon yellow underparts, a white throat, a grey face with a white eyebrow stripe, and olive-brown upperparts. Subspecies M. f. tormenti has white underparts, more greyish upperparts, a longer bill and longer tail, and is larger overall. Subspecies M. f. flavissima resembles M. f. flavigaster, but has a more noticeable yellow tinge to its upperparts and throat, a yellow eyebrow, and a shorter tail. Subspecies M. f. laetissima more closely resembles M. f. flavigaster, but has a shorter tail and shorter bill, and is larger overall. This species' distribution extends from the Ord River in the west to coastal Queensland. It inhabits mangroves, paperbark swamp forests, and woodland.
