About Micranthes howellii (Greene) Small
Micranthes howellii, previously classified as Saxifraga howellii, is a species of saxifrage commonly called Howell's saxifrage. This plant is endemic to the Klamath Mountains of southern Oregon and northern California, where it grows in moist, rocky habitat. It is a perennial herb that grows from a caudex, and most individuals have a rhizome system. It produces a basal rosette of leaves with rounded or oval blades; the edges of these blades have dull teeth, sharp teeth, or scalloping. Each leaf can grow up to 6 centimeters long, is thick and fleshy, and is attached to a short petiole. Its inflorescence grows from an erect peduncle that can reach up to 20 centimeters tall. A series of branches hold several flowers, each with small white petals.
