About Mexichromis macropus Rudman, 1983
Mexichromis macropus is a species of nudibranch first described by Rudman in 1983. Its mantle border is decorated with radially arranged orange or yellow-orange stripes. This differs from related species: Mexichromis katalexis has spots on its mantle border, while Mexichromis mariei has continuous lines. The mantle of this species ranges in color from white to pink-purple, and is covered in scattered pointed papillae with purple tips. This species has been recorded from temperate and subtropical regions of Australia, including southwestern Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, and southern Queensland. In terms of ecology, Mexichromis macropus feeds on sponges that belong to the genus Dysidea.
