About Metaplastes pulchripennis (Costa, 1863)

Adults of Metaplastes pulchripennis reach a body length of 17–18 millimetres (0.67–0.71 in). The basic body color is pale green, with a reddish-brown streak running along the back. The legs are mostly green, with pale brown knees. The antennae are brown and very long. The ovipositor is relatively short, measuring 9–10 millimetres (0.35–0.39 in). Female elytra are solid green, while male elytra have a white outer edge with a dark brown band along the edge. This species is quite similar to species in the genus Barbistes, but can be distinguished by the structure of male cerci and its more elongated pronotum. This species occurs in mainland Italy, northern Sardinia, Corsica, northern Sicily, and northeastern Spain. It primarily lives in riparian woodlands, forest edges, and flower-rich grasslands.
