About Metamasius callizona G.C.Champion, 1910
Scientific name: Metamasius callizona G.C.Champion, 1910. Physical characteristics: Adult beetles of this species are between 11 mm and 16 mm in length. They are black, with a thin orange band running width-wise across their elytra. Females lay elongated eggs that measure approximately 2 mm long and 1 mm wide. After being laid, the eggs change color over time, shifting from white to yellow, then to light brown. Life cycle: Metamasius callizona are multivoltine, holometabolous insects that have 5 larval instars. Development from egg to adult takes an average of roughly 58 days. All life stages of M. callizona can be found on a single individual host plant. Adult females chew slices into leaves near optimal feeding sites, then lay one individual egg inside each fresh slice.
