About Metalectra tantillus Grote, 1875

Metalectra tantillus, commonly called the black fungus moth, is a moth species in the family Erebidae. Augustus Radcliffe Grote first described this species in 1874. This moth has been documented from the following U.S. states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The wingspan of this species is approximately 25 mm. Adult black fungus moths have been recorded in flight from January through October, with the majority of records falling between April and August.
