About Metalectra discalis Grote, 1876

Metalectra discalis, commonly known as the common fungus moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. Augustus Radcliffe Grote first described this species in 1876. It can be found in North America, ranging from Wisconsin to Quebec and Maine, extending south to Florida, west to Texas and Missouri, and north to Ontario. The wingspan of this species measures 20–29 mm. In the southern part of its range, adult moths are active from May to September, while in the northern part, adults are on wing from June to August. The species most likely produces two or more generations each year. Larvae of this species have been recorded feeding on bracket fungi, and they probably also feed on other persistent fungi.
