Metalasia trivialis is a flowering subshrub that belongs to the Asteraceae family. This species is endemic to South Africa's Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces. Its main distribution range extends between Ladismith and Grahamstown, with additional populations found at Cathcart and Stutterheim. This plant grows on mountain slopes and plains, in rocky, clayey, and sandy soils at elevations ranging from 0 to 1500 meters, and it is a component of fynbos vegetation.
