About Merwilla plumbea (Lindl.) Speta

Merwilla plumbea, commonly called blue squill, is a perennial bulb-forming herb belonging to the small genus Merwilla in the family Asparagaceae. This species is endemic to the Drakensberg mountain range. It can be found in eastern South Africa, Eswatini, and Lesotho. Its habitat consists of rocky, well-drained slopes located at altitudes between 300 and 2500 metres. On average, mature individuals of Merwilla plumbea are thought to live for 25 years.
