About Merops albicollis Vieillot, 1817

This species, like other bee-eaters, is a richly coloured, slender bird. It is predominantly green, with a white face and throat, and a black crown, black eye stripe, and black neckband. Its underparts are pale green that shades to blue on the breast, it has a red eye and a black beak. Excluding its two very elongated central tail feathers, the white-throated bee-eater reaches a total length of 19–21 cm; these extended central tail feathers can add more than 12 cm of additional length. Adult white-throated bee-eaters weigh between 20 and 28 grams. Male and female white-throated bee-eaters are similar in appearance, with the only difference being that males have longer tail feathers. The call of this species is similar to the call of the European bee-eater.
