About Meriones hurrianae Jordon, 1867

Description: The Indian desert jird has a grey-brown coat and a yellowish-grey belly. Its body is approximately 12 to 14 centimetres (4.7 to 5.5 inches) long, with a tail measuring 10 to 15 centimetres (3.9 to 5.9 inches) long. Its key distinguishing features are short ears, long black claws, and orange incisors. Distribution: The Indian desert jird occurs across a range from southeastern Iran and Pakistan to northwestern India. Within India, it is found in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Habitat: This jird lives in desert and barren landscapes, and prefers areas with firm soil. It does not inhabit pure sand dunes or rocky outcrops.
