About Meridiastra gunnii (Gray, 1840)

Meridiastra gunnii is a species of sea star that is native to Australia. This species typically has six arms, and individuals can come in any color. Molecular research has found that what is currently classified as M. gunnii in southern Australia includes two genetically distinct forms, one in eastern areas and one in western areas, meaning a taxonomic update is needed. Additional studies have found that M. gunnii may be the same species as Patiriella brevispina.
