Mentzelia tricuspis is an annual herb. It grows either erect or spreading, reaching a maximum height of around 27 centimeters. Its leaves can grow up to 12 centimeters long, with toothed or wavy edges. The inflorescence is a cluster of cream-colored flowers; these flowers have petals up to 5 centimeters long and stamens with thready tips. The fruit is a cylindrical utricle that can measure up to 1.5 centimeters long, and it contains many tiny whitish beaked seeds.
