Mentzelia torreyi A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows in small clumps, reaching 10 to 16 centimeters in height. Its leaves measure 2 to 4 centimeters long, and are sometimes divided into a few narrow lobes with rolled edges. The inflorescence is a cluster of flowers; each flower has yellow petals up to 1.5 centimeters long, plus many whiskery stamens that each grow up to 1 centimeter in length. The fruit is an urn-shaped utricle that holds many tiny bullet-shaped seeds.
