About Mentzelia lindleyi Torr. & A.Gray
Mentzelia lindleyi grows between 0.30 and 0.91 meters (1 to 3 feet) tall. It produces bright yellow flowers that reach 3 inches in diameter, each with five petals. A single plant can produce between 25 and 35 flowers. This species is distributed in the California Coast Ranges, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the San Joaquin Valley in California, as well as in Arizona. It can be found growing in two habitat types: Coastal sage scrub and Southern oak woodland. An annual wildflower, Mentzelia lindleyi is cultivated as an ornamental plant for traditional flower beds, drought-tolerant gardens, habitat gardens, and desert rock gardens. It is also planted as a pollinator plant in wildlife gardens, and prefers sandy soil when grown in gardens.
