About Mentzelia leucophylla Brandegee

Mentzelia leucophylla Brandegee is a biennial or perennial herb that reaches up to 0.5 metres (1.6 ft) in height. Its stem and foliage are covered in tiny white hairs, which give the plant a pale, velvety appearance. It produces a wide inflorescence bearing bright yellow flowers from May through September, and each flower opens for only a short period in the afternoon. This plant is a locally endemic species, known only from southern Nye County in southwestern Nevada. It is one of several rare plant species that are endemic exclusively to Ash Meadows in the Amargosa Desert, a region that hosts a unique desert wetland ecosystem. Mentzelia leucophylla is currently threatened by habitat degradation.
