The Greater Antillean bullfinch, with the scientific name Melopyrrha violacea (first described by Linnaeus in 1758), is a bird species that belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. This species occurs in the Bahamas, Hispaniola (which includes the Dominican Republic and Haiti, plus the islands surrounding Hispaniola), Jamaica, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest.
