About Melongena patula (Broderip & G.B.Sowerby I, 1829)

Melongena patula is a species of sea snail with a shell that grows between 75 and 250 millimeters in length. The outer surface of the shell is a deep chestnut brown, marked by a small number of white or yellow spiral bands. The interior of the shell is solid white. The shell shape is quite slender; it sometimes has spines along its shoulders, and features a wide aperture. This species can be found along the Pacific coast from the Gulf of California in Mexico, all the way south to Peru. These sea snails live in shallow water, typically in areas with sandy or muddy substrate, especially in habitats under mangrove trees.
