The scientific name of the white-throated honeyeater is Melithreptus albogularis Gould, 1848. Adult white-throated honeyeaters measure 11.5 to 14.5 cm (4.5 to 5.7 in) in length. Adults have black heads, a blue-white patch of bare skin above the eye, and a white stripe running across the nape. Their upperparts are olive-green or yellow-green, with a yellower rump, and their throat and underparts are white. The bill is black, the eyes are red-brown, and the legs are purple-brown. Multiple different calls of this species have been recorded.
