About Melica nutans L.
Melica nutans L. is a grass species that grows from slender, creeping rhizomes. Its culms reach 25–970 centimetres (9.8–381.9 in) in height. Its inflorescence holds 5–15 fertile spikelets, which are oblong, compressed, and 6–8 millimetres (0.24–0.31 in) long. Each spikelet contains 2–3 fertile florets, with additional smaller florets at the apex. The fertile florets are 5–7 millimetres (0.20–0.28 in) long and elliptic in shape. The flowers have 3 anthers that measure 1.5–2 millimetres (0.059–0.079 in) in length. Glumes are thinner than the fertile lemma; the lower glume is 4–6 millimetres (0.16–0.24 in) long, and matches the length of the upper glume. This grass grows in shady, hillside habitats at elevations between 100–2,300 metres (330–7,550 ft).
