Melanotus punctolineatus (Pelerin, 1829) adults measure 11–16 millimetres (0.43–0.63 inches) in size. The entire body, legs, and antennae are all black. The body shape is elongated. The elytra taper toward their end, and this tapering is more distinct in males. Males also have longer antennae and a longer prothorax than females.
