About Melanotus castanipes (Paykull, 1800)

Melanotus castanipes (Paykull, 1800) measures between 13 and 19 mm in length. Its body is elongated, with elytra that taper toward their end. Individuals are typically uniformly black; some may have a slightly browner head. Obvious longitudinal rows of pits are present on the body, and the pronotum is covered in densely scattered pits. Both the legs and antennae are black. The antennae are long, extending noticeably past the posterior margin of the pronotum; female individuals have slightly shorter antennae than males.
