About Melanocoryphus albomaculatus (Goeze, 1778)
Melanocoryphus albomaculatus (Goeze, 1778) has distinct characteristic coloration and markings. Its head, scutellum, antennae, and legs are all black. The pronotum is red and bears two hook-shaped black spots. The corium, the partially hardened section of the front hemelytra, is red with a round black spot at its center. The membrane, the transparent section of the front wings, is black with a round white spot in its middle. The connexivum, the visible side portion of the abdomen, is red with black spots. Adult individuals of this bug reach a body length of 7 to 9 mm. This is a heat-loving species that is very common across the Mediterranean region. Its distribution range extends eastward through Asia Minor all the way to the Caspian Sea. In Central Europe, the species only occurs sporadically, and is usually restricted to areas known as "heat islands". In Germany, these heat island populations are found in the Upper Rhine Plain and along the Middle Rhine. The species can also be found on the northern French channel coast, in the Netherlands, and in Austria.
