About Melanargia occitanica (Esper, 1793)
Scientific name: Melanargia occitanica (Esper, 1793). The forewings of this species measure 25–28 mm in length. In the classification by Seitz, this species is referenced as M. syllius Hbst. (= occitanica Esp.) (39 d, e). It can be immediately identified by the veins and transverse lines that form a network of brown markings on the underside of the hindwing; large ocelli with prominent whitish violet centres are situated between these stripes. On the upperside of the forewing, the cell bears a black transverse line located not far from its apex. This species occurs in North Africa and southwestern Europe, with recorded locations including western Morocco, Portugal, Spain, southern France, and the Italian Alps.
