About Megasyrphus laxus (Osten Sacken, 1875)

Megasyrphus laxus (Osten Sacken, 1875), commonly called the black-legged gossamer fly, is an uncommon species of syrphid fly that has been observed across North America. Syrphid flies, also known as hoverflies, are able to stay nearly completely motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies are often called flower flies because they are commonly found on flowers, where they collect energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen to feed on. The larval stage of this species has not been documented.
