About Megarhyssa macrura (Linnaeus, 1771)

Megarhyssa macrura has an elongated, reddish-brown body that reaches up to 2 inches (51 mm) in length. It has black and yellow-orange stripes, and its wings are transparent. When the body is measured together with the ovipositor, total length in females can be more than 5 inches (130 mm). Males are smaller than females and do not have an ovipositor. This species is distributed across the eastern half of the United States, and its range extends into the extreme southern part of Canada near the Great Lakes.
