Megachile pruina Smith, 1853 is a medium-sized bee species, measuring 11 to 13 millimeters in length. This bee species displays sexual dichromatism, where females typically have a very dark body coloration. Megachile pruina is distributed in the United States, occurring from Virginia to Florida, extending west to Texas and found mostly in coastal habitats. It is also considered a native species to the islands of Bermuda. In Bermuda, its distribution has been restricted to the Castle Harbour Islands Nature Reserve since 1989. Nonsuch Island is the primary habitat of this species, while additional observations have also been recorded on Cooper's Island, Southampton Island, Horn Rock, and Castle Island.
