About Maurilia iconica (Walker)
The forewings of Maurilia iconica range from gray to reddish, and show variable patterns across individuals. Some specimens have a crescent-shaped reniform stigma. The dots in the posterior half of the postmedial row are arranged irregularly. Mature caterpillars are dark brown, marked with pale brown marbling. All of its subdorsal, dorsolateral, lateral, and spiracular lines are whitish and broken. Its setae are blackish. The intersegmental regions have a greenish or orange tint. Pupation takes place inside a whitish silken cocoon. The cocoon is semi-ovoid, boat-shaped, and dirty fuscous in color. Known larval host plants for this species are species from the genera Vatica, Terminalia, Shorea, Anogeissus, Tectona, and Saccharum.
