About Matuta victor (Fabricius, 1781)

Matuta victor, commonly called the common moon crab, is a species of crab in the family Matutidae. This is a medium-sized coastal crab that is native to warm beaches across the Indo-Pacific region, and it has additionally been introduced to the Mediterranean Sea. As with other crabs in Matutidae, all five of its leg pairs are flattened. This shape is an adaptation that allows the crab to swim rapidly and bury itself quickly in underwater substrate. Common moon crabs are predatory.
