About Mastophora phrynosoma Gertsch, 1955

Mastophora phrynosoma Gertsch, 1955 is a species of orb weaver spider that belongs to the family Araneidae. This species is found in the United States. Like all currently known species in the genus Mastophora, adult female Mastophora phrynosoma are bolas spiders. Instead of capturing prey in a typical web, they catch their prey using one or more sticky drops located at the end of a single silk line. Male Mastophora phrynosoma and juvenile female Mastophora phrynosoma capture their prey directly with their legs.
