About Martyringa latipennis (Walsingham, 1882)
Martyringa latipennis is a species of moth in the family Lecithoceridae. This species occurs in North America, and has been specifically recorded in the U.S. states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The wingspan of adult Martyringa latipennis ranges from 15 to 21 mm.
The forewings of this moth are pale ochreous, heavily suffused and irregularly clouded with brownish fuscous. This brownish fuscous marking covers the entire costal and apical regions of the wing, with the exception of a pale fascia. The pale fascia starts at the costal cilia, turns outwards at a right angle at the apex of the cell, then extends downwards to the anal angle. The apical margin and the dorsal half of the wing are also primarily pale ochreous, and contain one plical and two diffused discal brownish-fuscous spots. Of these spots, the outer one located near the end of the cell is the most noticeable. The hindwings are a very pale ash-gray color. Adult Martyringa latipennis fly from May through August.
