About Maroga melanostigma (Wallengren, 1861)

Maroga melanostigma, commonly known as the fruit tree borer, is a moth species belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. It is native to Australia. Adults have a wingspan of approximately 40 millimeters. The larvae of this species feed on a broad variety of trees, including multiple Acacia species, with a particular preference for Acacia mearnsii. This species is regarded as a pest that affects Ulmus × hollandica 'Wredei', Platanus orientalis, various maple species, and a number of Rosaceae species: these include Malus pumila, Prunus armeniaca, Prunus avium, Prunus persica, and Rubus idaeus. Additional plant species recorded as food for the larvae include Cassia species, Wisteria sinensis, Carya illinoensis, Ficus carica, Citrus species, Lantana camara, and Vitis vinifera.
