About Marmota kastschenkoi Stroganov & Yudin, 1956
Forest-steppe marmots (scientific name Marmota kastschenkoi Stroganov & Yudin, 1956) have a head-and-body length of 45 to 66 cm (18 to 26 inches). Lighter individuals can weigh as little as 3 kg (6.6 lb) in spring, after hibernation, while heavier individuals can reach up to 8.9 kg (20 lb) in autumn, before hibernation. This species hibernates for about 6 and a half months, starting hibernation in August or September.
