About Margariscus nachtriebi (Cox, 1896)
The northern pearl dace, scientifically named Margariscus nachtriebi, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish that belongs to Cyprinidae, the family of carps and minnows. It lives in the Atlantic, Hudson Bay, Great Lakes, and Mississippi River basins, which are located in the northern United States and Canada. It prefers to live in cool, clear headwater streams, bog drainage streams, ponds, small lakes, and the stained, peaty waters of beaver ponds, and it is typically found over bottoms made of sand or gravel.
