About Maratus harrisi Otto & Hill, 2011

Maratus harrisi is a species of peacock spider, which belongs to the jumping spider family Salticidae, and is a member of the genus Maratus. This species is native to Australia, specifically found in the Australian Capital Territory. It was formally described in 2011 by Otto and Hill. The species is named for its discoverer, Stuart Harris, a Canberran vineyard worker and amateur photographer. Harris first encountered this spider in Namadgi National Park in December 2008. He soon posted a photograph of the spider to his Flickr account, where it was seen by spider researcher David Hill.
