The adult Styrian praying lacewing, Mantispa styriaca, is yellow-brown and has transparent wings with a 35 mm (1.4 inch) wingspan. Its forelegs resemble those of a praying mantis, and the species can use these forelegs to seize living prey. This species is distributed across southern and central Europe.
