This species, Mancinella alouina, was first formally described by Röding in 1798. Adult shells of this species reach sizes that range between 30 millimeters and 61 millimeters. The species is distributed in the Indian Ocean, where it can be found off the coasts of Kenya and Tanzania, as well as in the Mascarene Basin; it also occurs throughout the broader Indo-West Pacific region.
