About Mammillaria carnea Zucc. ex Pfeiff.
Mammillaria carnea Zucc. ex Pfeiff. is a cactus that grows either alone or in clusters. Mature plants reach up to 20 centimeters in height and 8 to 12 centimeters in diameter, and their shape changes from spherical to cylindrical as they grow. This species has firm, angular warts that hold milky sap. It produces four stiff, pink-brown central spines with black tips, which measure 0.8 to 2 centimeters long. Radial spines are either completely absent or present in the form of small bristles. The plant bears funnel-shaped, light pink flowers that are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long and 1.2 to 1.5 centimeters across. After flowering, it produces red fruits that contain brown seeds. Mammillaria carnea is native to the Mexican states of Guerrero, Puebla, and Oaxaca. In its native range, it grows on plains and slopes within deciduous forest, at elevations between 500 and 2000 meters.
