The sooty-capped babbler, scientifically named Malacopteron affine (Blyth, 1842), is a species in the Pellorneidae bird family. It is found in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, and Singapore. In the Malay language, this species is called rimba tinjau belukar. Its primary diet consists of small insects. The sooty-capped babbler is currently threatened by habitat loss. Two subspecies are recognized: M. a. affine (Blyth, 1842), which is distributed across the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, the Banyak Islands, and the Bangka Islands; and M. a. phoeniceum Deignan, 1950, which is found on Borneo.
