About Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922

Maja brachydactyla is a crab species that belongs to the family Majidae. It was originally classified as a subspecies of Maja squinado. In 1998, a review of this species complex distinguished between specimens collected from the Mediterranean Sea and specimens collected from the Atlantic Ocean. The review concluded that the Atlantic specimens belong to a separate species, which is recognized as Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922.
