About Macropygia tenuirostris Bonaparte, 1854
The Philippine cuckoo-dove (Macropygia tenuirostris Bonaparte, 1854) is a large cuckoo-dove. It measures 38.5 centimetres (15.2 in) in length, and weighs 157 to 191 grams (5.5 to 6.7 oz). The head is cinnamon reddish brown. The upper mantle has an amethyst sheen with small brown freckles, and the hindneck also has an amethyst sheen. Adult individuals have an orange-reddish brown forehead, and a chestnut crown and nape that carry a pinkish tinge. The irises are red, the beak is brown, and the ear coverts and sides of the neck are also orange-reddish brown. The hindneck and sides of the breast are shiny pinkish purple with black spots. The breast has a faint lilac tinge. The outer tail coverts are dark reddish brown with black subterminal bands, and the feet are bright red. Adult females have a warm buff hindneck that is spotted and barred with black, and the mantle and wing coverts are more reddish brown along their edges. Juvenile birds resemble females in appearance, but have more extensive barring.
