About Macropodus hongkongensis Freyhof & Herder, 2002

Macropodus hongkongensis is a species of paradise fish in the genus Macropodus that is endemic to southern China. It was first discovered in Hong Kong, and later found in other areas of southern China. It can be found in both mountainous regions and lowland habitats. This species grows to a length of over 10 cm. Like other species of Macropodus, M. hongkongensis is popular with fish keepers in China, where it is called "Hong Kong black paradise fish" (Traditional Chinese: 香港黑叉尾鬥魚 or HK黑). This fish is easy to keep and breed in home aquariums, but is known to be unusually aggressive.
