Macropharyngodon negrosensis Herre, 1932 has a basic blackish body color. In males, its scales are edged with pale green; in females, its scales are marked with small pale spots. Both sexes have black anal and pelvic fins. The caudal fin is a contrasting pale shade, although males have blackish caudal fin lobes. This species' distribution ranges from the Andaman Sea and Christmas Island east to the Philippines and Samoa, north to the Ryukyu Islands, and south to northern Australia.
