About Macronus ptilosus Jardine & Selby, 1835

The fluffy-backed tit-babbler, scientifically named Macronus ptilosus, is a bird species belonging to the family Timaliidae. This species occurs in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical swampland. It faces threats from habitat loss. The International Ornithological Congress recognizes two subspecies of this bird: M. p. ptilosus (first described by Jardine & Selby in 1835), which is found on the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and the Batu Islands; and M. p. trichorrhos (first described by Temminck in 1836), which is found on the Bangka Belitung Islands and Borneo.
