This species is native to Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí, which are states in Mexico, as well as New Mexico and Texas, which are states in the United States of America. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assigned Macromia annulata the conservation status "LC", which stands for least concern. This indicates there is no immediate threat to the survival of this species, and its population is currently stable.
