About Macracantha hasselti (C.L.Koch, 1837)
Macracantha hasselti is a species of spider in the family Araneidae. This species is native to Asia, with a range extending from India eastward to Indonesia. As is typical for species in its genus, the male of Macracantha hasselti is small and unremarkable in appearance, while the female is larger and very brightly colored. Excluding legs, the female is usually around 8 mm in overall length. The spider's carapace is densely covered in white hairs. Its abdomen is roughly triangular, bright orange, marked with 12 black spots arranged in two rows along its back, and edged with six black spikes around its margin; the two spikes located at the rear corners are the longest.
