The scientific name of this moth species is Maceda mansueta Walker, 1858. The wing color patterns of this species are highly variable. Adult individuals are brownish, with transverse fasciation on their wings. Their hindwings have gray and black shading. The caterpillar of Maceda mansueta is yellowish, with dark reddish dots located within its tubercles. Caterpillars have a distinct double dorsal line marked with red, brown, or black speckles. Only primary setae are present on caterpillars. Pupation takes place inside a brown, ovoid truncated cocoon. The pupa has no cremaster. The known larval food plant for this species is Heritiera. One subspecies, Maceda mansueta rufimacula Prout, 1921, has been recorded for the species.
