About Macaria granitata Guenée, 1857

Macaria granitata, commonly known as the granite moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. Its known distribution includes Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire, the broader New England region, New Jersey, southern Quebec, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This species has a wingspan of approximately 25 mm. It produces one to two generations each year. Larvae of the granite moth feed primarily on Pinus rigida in the New England area. In southern New Jersey, larvae have been recorded feeding on Pinus rigida as well as other hard pine species.
